Finely embellished this pincushion that I have been using for a few weeks now. The button I have had for many years and now it finely has its resting place! ;)
I love these quilting pins and wanted to take them with me while caravaning. With a bit of head scratching I came up with this container, which from memory I purchased alfalfa sprouts in it. If you have followed this blog, you will be getting the idea that I do hoard things here. You would be correct! :D
Anyway with a little bit of prodding, the pincushion fits nicely and have to thank Home Made by Sallyanne for planting the seed in my head, as she has done something similar so that she can also take her own pincushion travelling. Sallyanne also managed to pick up a quite a bit of craft material from Spotlight for me. Gosh I wished I lived closer to a Spotlight but then again, perhaps it isn’t a good idea! LOL
I am going to wash some of that Spotlight fabric now.

Sue, Oh what a brilliant idea to put your pin cushion in for when you travel. I am like you too....I tend to haurd (sp??) things too and usually I will have a clean out and chuck things out and then I want to use what I have chucked out. Love the pincushion too :)

Jean it is simple to make up and can be made to any size you wish. It is two circles of fabric sewn right sides together leaving a small opening to turn the right way. Stuff it with what you prefer to use then close the opening. I have seen several versions on the Internet. I did see one with the yo-yo, which took my eye. Embellishment was a bit of trial and error as it took me awhile to work out how to sew the ricrac on by hand, while creating a decorative stitch. The embroidery thread dividing the pincushion into eight quarters was done last. There is a button top and bottom of the pincushion.

I just love the pincushion. The pins can be deadly though with the extra length to them. They also have on many occasions stabbed my fingers, but getting used to them and they now don't bite so often. :D

Hi Sue...thankyou for visiting my new blog. Just love this idea of putting the pin cushion in a container (just the right height) to travel with. We also do a lot of caravanning. Hope to go North for the winter this year. Half of my studio goes with me, so any ideas for better storage is great.
